Arrowtown Pump Track
Back in July 2015, Arrow Bikes began the process of spearheading a campaign to get a pump track built in Arrowtown.
Having owned and operated our bike shop since 2011, we knew that there was enough interest and community need for a pump track in the area, so we got to work on making this idea become a reality.
We began by putting out a simple online survey in conjunction with Arrowtown Primary School to gauge interest in the pump track. The response was overwhelmingly positive with over 450 people saying that they wanted a pump track in Arrowtown.
In addition to this, we received letters of support from the Arrowtown Primary School, the Arrowtown Promotion & Business Association, the Arrowtown Village Association and the Queenstown Mountain Bike Club, all stating that they supported the idea of the pump track being built.
The next step was to put together a proposal that described what a pump track was, detailed the costs of building and maintaining the track and also listed the benefits to the community as a whole. We then presented this to QLDC along with a suggested site for the track. QLDC thought that it was a fantastic idea and pledged their support in helping us to get the track built
The final step was to get funding. With the support of QLDC, we approached various Trusts, community bodies and local businesses and over the course of a few months managed to raise enough funds to get the pump track built.
The Arrowtown Pump Track was officially opened in December 2016.
This project would not have been possible without the support from the local community as well as the sponsorship that was so generously offered.
